Peers in the City

How is the city changing? Explore aspects of the new intelligent city and how people are organizing themselves in new ways to take advantage of these changes. This talk will explore how where the open paradigm meets technology and people meets the city.

The word hacker while having a negative connotation is also seen as an expression of freedom, a personal act of revolution, where you are able to impact the objects and systems around you. Hacking started with software and has spread into the physical world. See how the Roomware Project explores how we can code into the built environment. It enables developers of multiple origins to create applications that can take advantage of multiple zones indoors using wireless technologies like RFID, WIFI and Bluetooth. We will also briefly explore hacking and emergent forms of hacker meetups and spaces within the city as well as show glimpses of a future in exploring collaborative redevelopment of shared spaces.

City information systems are evolving and are about to become more personalized and available. What are a few forward thinking cities up to? What should people consider as these pervasive urban services begin deployment?
