Opening of the Terahertz Region

The TV is becoming a large, all-purpose wall-mounted display which can show family photos, video recordings, webpages, live broadcasts, screen-saver-like abstractions - essentially any still or moving electronic image. Meanwhile, stores are replacing their static printed or painted outdoor signs with large, bright LED panels delivering eye-grabbing animations. It is easy to imagine most urban surfaces being LED enhanced, sooner or later. Give each surface an IP address and it can be wirelessly fed with fresh patterns and attractive images. Do we have enough bandwidth to support such a visual circus? No problem. The terahertz region is just opening, and in addition to see-through-your-clothes video, it means an end to local bandwidth scarcity. We can - and therefore probably will - immerse ourselves in the wildest imaginable fantasies, until the changing climate and collapsing ecosystem smack us down.
